"Wir wollen mehr Männer in Kindertagesstätten" fordert Bundesfamilienministerin Kristina Schröder. Der Anteil männlicher Erzieher lag bis 2008 nur bei 2,4 Prozent. Laut Ministerium brauchen gerade Kinder in diesem Alter unterschiedliche Rollenvorbilder, an denen sie sich orientieren können. Fehlende männliche Bezugspersonen wirken sich nach Auffassung von Fachleuten nachteilig auf das Bindungs-, Aggressions- und Gewaltverhalten sowie auf die Bildungschancen von Jungen aus. Männer in Kitas sollen Jungen (und Mädchen) in einer Zeit, in der sie ihre Geschlechtsidentität entwickeln, ein erweitertes Spektrum an gelebten Vorbildern bieten und damit auch einen möglichen Mangel an männlichen Bezugspersonen im familiären Bereich ausgleichen, erklärt das Ministerium.
Das Bundesministerium für Familie, Senioren, Frauen und Jugend und der Europäische Sozialfonds stellen in den nächsten drei Jahren rund 13 Millionen Euro bereit, um mehr Männer für den Erzieherberuf in Deutschland zu gewinnen. Das Modellprogramm "Mehr Männer in Kitas", das am 1. Januar 2011 beginnt, soll das Interesse von Jungen und Männern am Beruf des Erziehers wecken, sie bei der Entscheidung für den Erzieherberuf unterstützen und die Perspektiven für Männer (und Frauen) in den Kindertageseinrichtungen verbessern.
